ONE OF THE MERITORIOUS ACTS OF OUR LIFE TIME IS THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE LANKARAMA VIHARA DHARMASALAWA

The approval for the construction of the Meditation Hall was received and the construction contract was awarded recently. The construction was commenced at the auspicious time, on Saturday, 12th March 2011 at 12:55pm.

It is with great pleasure, SLBVA announces to Sydney Sri Lankan Buddhist Community and other well wishers that the construction of  Sydney Lankarama Dharmalsalawa  Meditation Hall commenced on the 12th March 2011 at an auspicious time, in the presence of a large number of devotees. The progress so far is as per plan and is expected to complete by October 2011, in time for the Katina Pinkama.

The Meditation Hall has a floor area of 320 Sq Metres and the estimated cost is $961,000.

Stage 1 of the project is to complete the hall and hoping to commence stage 2 immediately after completion of stage 1. Stage 2 comprises of an amenities building with toilets, a kitchen, two dormitories to be used for residential meditation purposes in the future and landscaping around the buildings.

With the generous support from the Sydney Sri Lankan Buddhist Community and other devotees and well-wishers, we have already collected $620,000 for the project. After preliminary expenses (Planning approvals from the Council and Department Water and Energy), a sum of  $581,000 is now available for the project.  The short fall at present is $380,000 and SLBVA expects that Lankarma devotees will continue to contribute generously to fill the gap, in order to complete this meritorious project.

SLBVA has established a special Trust Fund “The Lankarama Education and School Building Trust Fund” to collect donations. Australian Taxation office has granted the Gift Deductible status to this Trust Fund and donations more than $2 made to the fund are tax deductible.

Number of community volunteers have helped to progress this project to this stage and without their continued support in specialized skills (Planning, Architectural, Structural, Tendering, Project Management etc), this project would have cost SLBVA at least an extra $100,000.

The SLBVA wishes to express their gratitude to the volunteers and devotees who contributed in many ways to bring this project to where we are now and continued support to make it a success in the near future.

Should you need more information on the project or wish to make a donation or a pledge towards this meritorious activity, please contact Lankaramaya on (02) 9627 2594 or see our Dharmasalawa Construction for more details.
